About Katiba Institute
Katiba Institute (KI) was established to promote the understanding and implementation of Kenya’s new Constitution. KI endeavors to enhance the implementation and the realization of the objects of the Constitution through research, constitutional education, constitutional litigation and encouraging public participation. KI also works to foster the spirit of constitutionalism in the East African region by promoting exchange of academic discourse on constitutional issues and by working with like-minded organizations to secure greater freedoms in the East African Region.
Internship Offer and Purpose
The KI Programmes Department undertakes research, advocacy and capacity building. KI seeks to engage a Programs Intern to be part of the Programmes team on a full time basis for 3 months. The intern will learn and gain experience through, among other tasks, assisting in field and desktop research; organizing and participating in different forums with community members and representatives – including members of Civil Society Organizations; and contributing to making submissions to laws and policies. The Intern will also have an opportunity to interact with other departments such as the Public Interest Litigation Department (PIL). The Intern will be based in Nairobi with occasional travel to other counties.
Desirable Qualifications and Attribute
An undergraduate degree in social sciences;
Conviction in and commitment to constitutionalism and principles of human rights;
Shown interest in conducting primary and desktop research;
Strong oral and written communications skills;
Fluency in English and Kiswahili;
Be available to begin in October and be willing to travel when need arises.
