Katiba Institute is proud to be among the key partners of the 2026 Pan-African Media Summit taking place from May 13–15, 2026, under the theme “Information Integrity, Digital Platforms and Media in Africa.” The partnership reflects our continued collaboration with The Media Council of Kenya, and other media stakeholders committed to strengthening constitutionalism, media freedom, and accountable governance across the continent.

Katiba Institute’s collaboration with the Council and media actors focuses on promoting access to information, defending freedom of expression, enhancing public awareness, and supporting transparent governance by equipping journalists and media institutions with constitutional and legal tools to hold public institutions accountable.

Our Communications and Knowledge Management Manager, Kevin Mabonga , notes that the Summit is significant for Katiba Institute because its core themes – Information Integrity, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Platforms, Media Sustainability and Independence, and the Regulatory Challenges of Information Spaces – directly align with the Institute’s strategic priorities on constitutionalism, digital rights, accountability, democratic governance, and access to information.

“As Africa’s information ecosystem evolves, these conversations are essential in shaping a media environment that upholds constitutional values, protects civic space, and promotes informed public participation,” says Kevin Mabonga.

The Summit will culminate in the Annual Media Excellence Gala Awards, an important platform for recognising and supporting journalists, particularly investigative reporters and those advancing public interest reporting and good governance.

Katiba Institute’s Programmes Manager, Patriciah Joseph , will also participate in a panel discussion on Promoting Information Integrity for Youth, where she will highlight the Institute’s work on access to information and civic engagement.
