Climate Justice Legal Fellow
Katiba Institute seeks a Climate Justice Legal Fellow for an 18-month fellowship. The fellowship will enable an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in private practice to work on climate justice issues by providing legal advice to members of the public, supporting local organisations, communities, and community partners through capacity-building, and offering technical and other support to civil society partners. The fellowship combines legal research, public-interest litigation, community support, and partner engagement to advance climate justice in Kenya.
This role is part of the African Climate Legal Fellowship Program, which is designed to build capacity within African public-interest law organisations, advance strategic climate and environmental legal action, and bring new attorneys into the public-interest sector.
The Legal Fellow will research environmental matters, with a specific focus on climate change; share research findings with stakeholders at relevant meetings and workshops in Kenya; and assist in developing and litigating strategic litigation cases on behalf of Katiba Institute. They will also form and maintain strong working relationships with partners, including communities, constitutional commissions, government entities, and donors.
