Appeal on Plight of Refugees

This week, Katiba Institute’s Litigation Unit will be at the Court of Appeal for an appeal concerning the rights of refugees and specifically questions whether a Directive issued by the Minister of Internal Affairs in December 2012 requiring all urban refugees to move to the refugee camps was unconstitutional. Justice Majanja of the High Court had declared the Directive unconstitutional on the basis that it violated refugees’ right to movement and residence under the constitution and international law as well as rights to fair administrative action and dignity. The Appeal will be heard on Tuesday October 11th 2016 before Court of Appeal Judges Philip Waki, Patrick Kiage and Fatuma Sichale. Katiba Institute will be represented at the Appeal by Faith Rotich and Waikwa Wanyoike.
